French Students Wreck Havoc In Apartment, Ordered To Pay For Damages

Wilful Damage

Two young French students have been prosecuted for wilful damage to third party property causing havoc worth €4,500 at the Ta’ Xbiex apartment where they were staying last Sunday evening. The court ruled that they will have to reimburse the damages fully before their departure this Friday.

French Arrogance

The French pair aged 24 and 23, who work as a nurse and real-estate agent respectively are in Malta attending and English language school.

The incident happened as follows; the French students knocked on the door of the owner of the block of the apartments. The daughter of the owner was inside alone as her mother was out and was instructed not to open the door.

Penalty

The students then proceeded to cause a commotion damaging the landing and vandalizing the elevator. All this was caught on CCTV.

The French duo appeared in court with an interpreter and represented by legal aid. Magistrate Natasha Galea Sciberras gave them a warning and instead of jail time, which would have been warranted, the sentence was suspended and they were ordered to pay €4,559 within two days of their departure. They were further warned of consequences should they pull another stunt before their departure.
