Divorce Waiting Time To Be Slashed From Four Years To Six Months

A new bill just passed by government means couples will have to wait a minimum of six months rather than four years to get a divorce.

If approved by parliament, couples will have to live apart for six months if the request is joint and for one year if it is made by only one of the parties in order to legally file for divorced 💍

Where the parties are already legally separated, there will be no waiting period for a person to be able to file for divorce.

In a statement, Justice Minister Edward Zammit Lewis said that the changes are necessary amendments that respect the private lives of individuals and families.
