EU To Initiate Proceedings Against Malta For Failing To Comply With Hunting Laws

The European Commission is calling on Malta to correctly apply laws for the protection of wild birds and allow derogations only subject to strict conditions.

In particular the commission is objecting to the trapping of finches for research purposes. It has sent two letters of formal notice to Malta.

Malta now has two months to remedy the situation, otherwise the Commission may decide to issue a reasoned opinion before going ahead with legal action.
