Izak Catania De Giovanni, Malta’s youngest councillor, recently made misogynistic remarks on his Instagram notes. Notable comments included “Kemm hi Qahba” (which translates to “She’s such a whore”) and “They say men are catfish, but then they can use a push-up bra.”
At just 16 years old, Catania De Giovanni made history as the youngest person ever elected to a Maltese local council, representing Fgura. He was given the responsibility of overseeing youth and innovation within the council.
As a public figure funded by taxpayers and a politically exposed person, Catania De Giovanni is under scrutiny and should be held accountable for his words and actions.
His mother, a Labour MP and vocal advocate for women’s rights, has previously taken strong stances on related issues. Notably, she has criticised the practice of placing a mother who has lost a child in the same hospital ward as an expectant mother.
Do you think his comments are acceptable?
