Activists were in Valletta on the 21st of August to present a photo project intended to shed light on the reality of unsafe abortions in Malta.
The project is a collaboration between photographer @emgrima and pro-choice campaign group @ypbmalta. The Women's Rights Foundation also supported the project.
Speaking at the demonstration Women Rights Foundation representative @emgalea said;
“The total criminalisation of abortion is both discriminatory as it is cruel, and it continues to cause unnecessary suffering to women in Malta … This project highlights that pain and begs the public to listen. There’s no such thing as banning abortions, only safe abortions”
Malta has one of the strictest anti-abortion laws in the world and is the only country in the European Union to prohibit abortion entirely.
